About This Site

The idea behind this site is quite simple: post a Top 10 List of your favorite songs by a particular artist. All the votes are counted and a fan-voted chart of that artist's best songs and albums is generated. The other major feature on the site is a discussion forum.

Before you can post your Top 10 Lists or post in the forum, you'll need to register. This is required to prevent people from posting multiple Top 10 Lists for the same artist and unfairly influencing the charts. At the time you register, you can optionally provide information about your favorite artists and musical styles as well as a personal statement. If you fill in those fields, the information will be displayed on your User Profile page along with all Top 10 Lists you post.

If you ever wish to edit your personal information or your Top 10 Lists, you can do so from your User Profile page. The exception to this is changing your password; there is a separate page for that.

Registration is not required to simply read most pages on the site, including the forum.

This site does not require JavaScript, but using JavaScript will make things easier for you in two ways. First, the navigation menus at the top of the page require JavaScript. Without it, you may need the Site Map to get around. Second, JavaScript is used to help you post your Top 10 Lists: the script will auto-complete song titles as you enter them. Without JavaScript, you'll have to type in the entire title, being sure that you spell and capitalize everything correctly.

Answers to some other questions:

How are the Top Songs and Albums charts calculated?
When someone posts a Top 10 List, their #1 song gets 10 points, #2 gets 9 points and so on down to #10 getting one point. These points are added up to find the top songs. If the score of two songs is tied, then the tiebreaker is the number of votes cast for that song. If it's still tied, the second tiebreaker is the number of people who voted for that song as a #1 song. After that, ties are broken alphabetically by song title. When you vote for a song, the points are also added to the album which contains that song. If there is a tie on the Top Albums chart, it is broken alphabetically by album title.

My favorite artist isn't on the site. How can I get them added?
Go to the request page. Non-registered visitors can request artists to be added, but requests from registered users are always filled first. Keep in mind that this is a rock-oriented website, and I reserve the right not to fulfill a request if I feel that the artist doesn't fit in. This means that rap/hip-hop, country, jazz, and electronic/DJ artists generally won't be included. Also, it is required that every artist have released a minimum of either 25 songs or 3 full-length albums, so brand new bands will not be included.

I want to vote for a song that's not in your database. Can you add it?
Make a post about it in the forum. I'll add the song as soon as I can. This is especially helpful when an artist who is already on the site releases a new album, in case I don't hear about it first.

Is there any limit to what can be discussed in the forum?
No subject matter is off limits, but behavior which is abusive to other members may result in suspension of your account.

How can I contact the webmaster?
If you don't mind your comments being public, I prefer that you make a post in the forum. However, if you wish to contact me privately (or you haven't registered and can't post in the forum) you can use the feedback page.
